Pitch session for the NOUVELLES VAGUES - Fondation Barrière Grant

Sarah Witt

The NOUVELLES VAGUES - Fondation Barrière grant is designed to support producer-director teams in the development of their feature film projects and to speed up their financing.

At this stage, the film is still in development, and there is still a lot of work to be done before the search for funding can begin: rewriting the script or dialogues, drawing up an estimate for the project, starting the casting process, or even location scouting, a music mockup or a special effects study.

More info about the Grant here.

Public presentation of the finalist projects

Following a call for projects and a review of the applications, three projects were picked by a selection committee made up of industry members. The finalist producer-director teams present their projects in public during the festival. This is an opportunity for the public to get an exclusive look at the films of tomorrow, and to find out more about the creation and production process, by listening to the presentation of films in the making.

The projects

These 4 feature film projects have been chosen among the 84 projects received:

  • Abi Musango - a fiction film by Josza Anjembe - produced by Yukunkun Productions
  • Altxaliliak - a documentary film by Maia Iribarne Olhagarai - produced by Gastibeltza Filmak
  • Docile - a fiction film by Joséphine Darcy Hopkins - produced by To Be Continued Productions and Kazak Productions
  • Les Filmeuses - a documentary film by Anna Salzberg - produced by Massala Production and Temps Noir

Each film director and their producer will present their project in the span of 7 minutes. The jury and the public will then be able to ask questions for the next 7 minutes.

The jury

A jury made up of young people from the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region and a figure from the film industry will attend to select the winning project, which will receive a €10,000 grant for the development of the project. The jury will be sensitive to the quality of the projects and will favor stories and perspectives rooted in the concerns of the new generation when choosing the winning project.

Youth in the spotlight

This initiative gives a voice to young people through the stories behind the selected projects, and helps them play a key role in the cinema of tomorrow, by giving the young members of the jury free rein to choose their favorite project.
