Chosen and introduced by Alice Diop. In partnership with the Cinémathèque idéale des banlieues du monde, a project of the Ateliers Médicis and the Centre Pompidou, based on an idea by filmmaker Alice Diop.

Born in 1979 in Aulnay-sous-Bois, Alice Diop has a degree in visual sociology. Her documentaries include Danton’s Death (2011), On Call (2016 – Best French Film at the Cinéma du Réel festival) and Towards Tenderness (César award for Best Short Film 2017). Us won a prize at the Berlinale in 2022. That same year, Saint Omer, her first feature film, won the Silver Lion award and the Lion of the Future award at the Venice Film Festival. The film was shortlisted to represent France at the 2023 Oscars and won the César award for Best First Film.

Rachid DJAÏDANI

Born in 1974

Born in 1974, Rachid Djaïdani is a French actor, director, producer and writer. He made his acting debut on Mathieu Kassovitz's film La Haine and went on to play a number of minor roles in film and television. He joined Peter Brook's theatre company and toured the world for five years in three plays (Hamlet, The Suit, Tierno Bokar). His first novel was published in 1999, Boumkoeur, a bestseller with over 100,000 copies sold, which portrays the daily lives of a housing estate’s residents with nuanced tenderness. Alongside his work as a writer, Rachid Djaïdani directed a feature-length documentary, Sur ma ligne, which was picked by the ACID selection at Cannes 2007. In 2011, he directed Une heure avant la datte, a web series for Arte TV. In 2013, he directed Hold Back, a self-produced feature which garnered him the FIPRESCI International Critics' Award at Cannes in 2012 and a nomination for Best Film at the César Awards in 2013.
