Anxious in Beirut is a personal diary that documents the events of the last two years in Lebanon (revolution, post-war, explosions, demonstrations…). Living with constant anxiety, Zakaria, the film’s young director, narrates his own life, while trying, on numerous occasions, to leave his country.

The School of Cinema and Audiovisual Directing of ALBA-UOB (Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts-University of Ballamand) was created in 1987 in Beirut, and aims to combine reflection, know-how and expression. The school provides teaching that integrates socio-economic, technical and artistic developments into theory and practice. To offer training that encourages creativity and research, the courses are balanced between theoretical knowledge and technical learning. The school has been a breeding ground for filmmakers and creatives in the Lebanese and regional audiovisual landscape.
Zakaria JABEUR
Born in 1994
Zakaria Jaber is a film director, editor and writer, born in Lebanon. Self-taught in journalism, filmmaking and video editing after several years working for major news outlets in the Middle East, he produced and directed his first short film independently in 2018. In 2019, he took a step forward with Anxious in Beirut. He spent three years documenting the lives of his friends and family during the revolutionary events that happened between 2019 and 2022. He is the founder of the writing company Outcast Stories in which he aims to grow as a writer and as a producer of film features and documentaries, in collaboration with a variety of Arab and International young writers and filmmakers. Anxious in Beirut is his first feature film.
