School projections with the Biarritz cultural department
In collaboration and coordination with the City of Biarritz's cultural department and the city's public elementary school, two screenings followed by debates were offered during school hours. The Festival's films and speakers were in line with the Festival's editorial line: stories of youth and learning adapted to the themes of school programs.
As part of the Cultural and Artistic Education Program (EAC) entitled “Tous différents”, 6 classes from Grande Section to CM2 were involved, from the 6 public elementary school in Biarritz (123 students). Le Colisée hosted a screening of Jean-François Laguionie's animated feature Le tableau. The film uses art history to explore the theme of social and cultural differences. The screening was followed by a discussion moderated by Raphaëlle Rio, scriptwriter and director. Students discussed the film in a question-and-answer game based on the theme of “differences”.
The CIN'EXPERTS project involved three classes (CP to CE) from 3 Biarritz public elementary school. The screening of Isao Takahata's animated feature Goshu the Cellist was followed by a discussion moderated by Eduardo Carretié, director and programmer for the Festival NOUVELLES VAGUES. Carretié guided students in developing critical thinking around the theme of passion. Pupils were encouraged to lead the debate themselves around questions they had formulated; each of the three classes involved proposed debating a specific question. The children were thus able to talk about their passions, the people who inspire them and whom they admire.
The objectives of these two screening-debates were the same: to discover key works of our heritage and to encourage debate through the development of critical thinking skills.
